A word from the Dean
Welcome to Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - Université de Liège. Founded in 1860, the Faculté de Gembloux is Belgium's oldest teaching and research institution dedicated to agronomy and biological engineering.
Studying at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech is much more than a scientific training program of excellence: it's a human experience at the heart of a tree-lined, multicultural campus on a human scale. You'll join a close-knit community that's open to the world, where students help each other and teachers are close at hand, leaving a lasting impression.
Long recognized for the quality of its teaching, our Faculty has reinvented itself to meet the major challenges of the 21st century. It combines traditional knowledge with technological innovation, and is fully committed to sustainable development. It opens up interdisciplinary perspectives combining creativity, management and entrepreneurship.
As a student, you will explore the diversity of living organisms and their multiple interactions, adopting a global approach to health that links humans, animals and ecosystems. You'll develop complementary skills that will help you tackle tomorrow's challenges from different angles, beyond engineering sciences alone.
Throughout your studies, you'll cultivate a capacity for adaptation that's essential if you're to meet current and future societal challenges. You will imagine innovative solutions to preserve natural spaces, design sustainable food systems and meet the emerging needs of our society.
Faced with the limits of natural resources, it is now necessary to go beyond the logic of intensive agriculture while meeting the needs of a growing world population. You will explore a wide range of complementary approaches: integrated management, agroforestry, agroecology, urban agriculture, alternative livestock farming, etc. Objectives: to strengthen the resilience of ecosystems in the face of climatic hazards, to reduce the carbon footprint of agriculture, to promote biological control methods to replace certain pesticides, to adapt conservation methods to the ecological constraints of different regions of the globe, to adopt sustainable fertilization strategies, to promote short circuits and the recycling of organic by-products, or to study the interactions between plants, animals and microbial communities.
As an engineer, you'll learn to make rigorous diagnoses before designing and implementing concrete solutions. You'll be constantly in touch with cutting-edge scientific research, through practical work, laboratories and your final thesis.
Finally, joining Gembloux means becoming part of a big family. A vast network of alumni, active all over the world, remains closely linked to the Faculty and supports your professional immersion, thanks to numerous opportunities for internships and international training. This comprehensive training will prepare you to act with discernment, adaptability and creativity, to sustainably support our planet's ecosystems.
