Producing enough quality food in sufficient quantity while reducing its impact on the environment is one of the main challenges facing European agriculture. Agro-ecology appears to be one of the promising solutions to achieve these objectives. However, agro-ecology education requires adapted tools to facilitate the teaching of the systemic approach, multidisciplinarity and transition management in agriculture.

To meet this objective, 6 European universities have decided to join forces to design an online educational game for students and professionals.

Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - University of Liège, the University of Agriculture HUGONA KOŁŁĄTAJA of Krakow, the University of Bologna, AGROCAMPUS OUEST, the National School of Veterinary Agriculture and Food ONIRIS and the Higher School of Agriculture of Angers are currently working to build the scientific models of crops, soil, animals, socio-economic aspects and ecosystem services that will be the basis of the game.

The teams are meeting from 8 to 10 October at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - University to work on the project.

On the agenda: work on the models under development, writing the specifications for the recruitment of a game development company, coordination of project activities and work on the interim report

In concrete terms, the player will pilot a virtual farm and implement agro-ecological practices in order to evolve his operation and improve the sustainability of the farm. Four European model farms will be proposed as the starting point for the game.

The project is funded with the support of the Erasmus+ programme for a period of 3 years.
