Aquatic platforms for common gulls

On 11 January 2019, the LIFE in Quarries participating quarries came together to take a training course on quarry birds associated with the construction of 22 waterbirds platforms. A unique opportunity to combine theory with practice.

The LIFE in Quarries project includes an action to build and set up nesting platforms, in particular for the common gull, a rare breeder in Wallonia, which appreciates the quarry basins of northern Wallonia. Usually, it nests on structures above basins, or on rocky islets. The installation of platforms should provide them with an ideal breeding site, isolated from predators.

This training was organized by the Biodiversity and Landscape Unit of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech and its partners in the LIFE in Quarries project: the Scheldt Plains Nature Park, FEDIEX and Natagora.
