On March 23rd, ULiège awarded the insignia of Doctor honoris causa to eleven Belgian and international personalities. On the proposal of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, Eric Domb, founder of Pairi Daiza, received this honorary title from the University of Liège. This honour is in line with the logic of a civic university in constant dialogue and link with society.

Eric Domb, Doctor Honoris Causa 2019

Mr. Domb's achievements are in direct contact with the objectives, skills and activities of the Faculty in both teaching and research. They encourage debate, a fundamental element of learning, on various themes (conservation of endangered fauna, evolution of the role of zoos, development of short circuits, innovative multifunctional natural forests project, landscape approaches to relaxation sites, etc.).

Entrepreneurship, creativity and passion are major elements in the reconciliation between business, biodiversity and the development of "nature based solutions" to meet major societal challenges.

Tuesday, May 7: Workshop "Bioversité, Business, Biophilie"

How does the business world view biodiversity? Can economic sectors support biodiversity? Can biodiversity contribute to the well-being of the economic ecosystem?

As part of the presentation of the Doctor Honoris Cause insignia to Eric Domb, Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech is organizing a workshop as part of the course "Biosphere, Agriculture, Society".

Four economic players will debate with 250 first-year bachelor students on the place of biodiversity in the business world:

  • Eric Domb, creator of Pairi Daiza;
  • Michel Calozet, Managing Director of the Fédération des entreprises extractives;
  • David van Drooghenbroeck, Director of the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi project;
  • Michel Rougeron, Director of the Tropical Timber Marketing Company.

These four actors operate in different economic activities but have chosen to make biodiversity a concern within their project.

This debate is organised as part of a course but is open to all (staff members and people from outside the Faculty).

Free event but registration required.
