Gauthier Ligot obtained his doctoral thesis at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, University of Liège, in the department of forest resource management as an FNRS candidate.

He has completed most of his academic career in Gembloux (Belgium). He also spent six months at the University of Joensuu (Finland) and one year at the University of Quebec at Montreal (Canada).

His research focuses on monitoring and modelling the dynamics of mixed forests in both temperate and tropical forests. His work reflects a desire to establish forest management recommendations based on a better understanding of ecological processes. At the service of students and researchers, he willingly shares his expertise in silviculture, dendrometry, modelling and statistics. In particular, he will participate in the teaching of the courses entitled "dendrometry and inventory" and "economics of the forest and natural heritage".
