Phytofar Prize 2019: Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech receives the Scientific Prize

On 19 November 2019, the Phytofar Institute for Research and Development of Sustainable Agriculture in Belgium awarded two prizes to research teams and one prize to a doctoral student for their innovative work.

This year, 16 teams introduced a project in which they looked for solutions to contribute to the most sustainable Belgian agriculture possible.

The jury of the Phytofar Institute selected 3 winners on the basis of the quality, originality and contribution of their projects to sustainable agriculture.

The Scientific Prize: The combined cultivation of wheat and winter protein crops: a possibility to diversify our rotations for a sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture, introduced by Jérôme Pierreux, Pierre Delaplace, Benjamin Dumont and Bernard Bodson of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - University of Liège.

The Professional Award: Optimization of Integrated Pest Management (IPM): the impact counter for side effects on beneficial insects in the orchard, by Femke De Vis, Tim Beliën and Dany Bylemans of pcfruit.

The Doctoral Prize: Study of the mode of action of COS-OGA, a new class of elicitor of the innate immunity of plants. This project was presented by doctoral student Géraldine van Aubel and promoter Pierre Van Cutsem of the University of Namur.
